Tom McLean, Ph.D.

Background

Tom’s doctoral work in psychedelic chemistry led to, among other interesting things, a potent mescaline analog called “Tomscaline.”

Tom McLean brings over 12 years of experience advising life sciences companies on small molecule IP strategy. As much of a medicinal chemist as a patent attorney, he specializes in aligning scientific and legal goals in both patent and transactional work. Tom comes to Relay Tx from Nimbus Therapeutics where he served as IP counsel, and prior to that he was an associate at Choate Hall & Stewart.

Tom holds B.S. degrees in chemistry and biology from the University of California, Irvine, a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology from Purdue University, a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School, and did post-doctoral work at the Broad Institute.
