  • Senior Research Associate, Medicinal Chemistry

    Position Summary:

    Relay Therapeutics is seeking highly skilled and motivated scientist with expertise in synthetic organic chemistry to join our medicinal chemistry group. The successful candidate will help solve medicinal chemistry problems by designing and synthesizing novel compounds, in close collaboration with colleagues in biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, computational chemistry, and biology/pharmacology. Scientists who love working in a team environment and are highly motivated, creative, and detail-oriented are encouraged to apply.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Work with the chemistry team leader and a multidisciplinary team of drug discovery scientists to identify and prioritize synthetic targets
    • Independently design synthetic routes and solve complex synthetic problems
    • Lead the synthetic effort of program teams into new areas; demonstrate a high level of creativity and productivity at the bench
    • Proactively review literature to bring in the newest scientific findings, ideas, and methods/technologies for discovery research
    • Interpret, summarize, and present research findings in internal and external scientific meetings/conferences
    • Contribute to patent, report, and scientific publication writing
    • Maintain and promote a safe work environment

    Qualifications:

    • BS with 10+ or MS with 7+ years of industrial experience in medicinal chemistry
    • Proven track record of excellence as exhibited by high impact, peer-reviewed publications and/or patents
    • Superior laboratory skills and proficiency in experimental design
    • Self-motivation and a proactive mindset
    • Ability to work independently and to interact with a multidisciplinary team of medicinal chemists, structural biologists, biophysicists, biologists, computational chemists, pharmacologists, and external collaborators
    • Capability to work within a dynamic matrix environment, contributing to project strategies and progression

    The Position:

    Relay Therapeutics is seeking a pharmacology leader to enable the development of small molecule therapies for cancer and related diseases.  The individual in this essential role will lead the design, external execution, and interpretation of in vivo pharmacology studies to support a growing pipeline of anti-cancer agents.  The ideal candidate has broad and diverse experience with oncology and immuno-oncology models, has led in vivo studies to assess PK/PD/efficacy relationships, and has experience overseeing interactions with contract research organizations.   Candidates must enjoy an interactive environment in which they will be asked to influence the strategy of multiple project teams.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead the pharmacology strategy as part of cross-functional drug discovery teams
    • Lead the design, external execution, and interpretation of in vivo PK/PD/efficacy studies, ensuring high quality, timely completion, and appropriate cost
    • Work closely with DMPK experts on PK/PD modeling, and study execution
    • Work with external academic and industrial collaborators to lead in vivo studies performed in complex disease models
    • Present clearly and concisely in internal and external meetings

    Qualifications:

    • PhD in oncology, pharmacology, or related field with at least 5 years of industry experience in small molecule drug discovery
    • Broad experience with diverse animal models of cancer and anti-tumor immunity, including patient-derived and genetically-engineered models
    • Demonstrated track record of leading pharmacology studies to support research stage drug discovery programs
    • Strong organizational and time management skills, with track record of supporting multiple ongoing projects in parallel
    • Experience with biomarker assay development and validation is a plus
  • Research Associate / Senior Research Associate, Biology

    Position Summary

    Relay Therapeutics is seeking a self-motivated researcher a desire to excel at the highest level to join a team of scientists driving the discovery of novel small molecule therapeutics in oncology.   The successful candidate will design and execute molecular and cell biology experiments focused on the discovery/validation of new drug targets, evaluation of candidate molecules, and development of novel biomarkers. A considerable level of independence is expected after the initial training period. S/he will interact and collaborate cross-functionally with scientists in other departments, including biochemists, chemists, and computational biologists.  Significant project ownership will allow for acquisition of new skills and for learning additional facets of the drug discovery process as projects advance.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Design and perform cell and molecular biology experiments to support the biological evaluation of small molecules impacting cancer dependencies and anti-cancer immunity
    • Develop cell-based assays to be used in target validation studies and/or medium throughput screening campaigns
    • Conduct cell-based assays in support of medicinal chemistry efforts and structure activity relationship assessment
    • Develop and perform pharmacodynamic and patient selection biomarker assays
    • Maintain good written records of laboratory procedures, results and conclusions.
    • Perform and report interim analysis of accumulated data to monitor work progress.

    Qualifications

    • BS/MS with 3+ years of industry/academic experience working in a cancer biology team
    • Experience in molecular biology (nucleic acid purification, DNA cloning, PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, and qPCR, si/shRNA, CRISPR, lentiviral gene knockdown)
    • Exceptional cell biology capabilities (mammalian cell culture flow cytometry, microscopy). Experience with in vitro immunology assays is a plus
    • Ability to design and execute experiments, analyze and document results
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task
