  • Manager/Senior Manager, Nonclinical Operations

    Position Summary:

    We are seeking a versatile, self-motivated individual to become an integral member of the R&D teams and the Nonclinical Development function for Relay Therapeutics. This person will play an instrumental role in organizing and maintaining an efficient operating environment for project-related Nonclinical Development activities, and by establishing and executing on overall program plans. We are looking for a consummate team player who seeks a scientifically rigorous and collaborative environment in which to grow their career in drug development.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • In partnership with Nonclinical leads and project leaders, develop program goals and timelines for Relay’s discovery and early development programs
    • Day-to-day oversight and management of Nonclinical activities, including project planning and timeline tracking, meeting management/minutes, and study/CRO management
    • Oversee process for legal contracts (CDAs, MSAs, SOWs), in close collaboration with Legal
    • Ensure coordination of activities and deliverables across DMPK, Toxicology and CMC functions as well as cross-functionally
    • Manage the Nonclinical budget, including raising POs and resource tracking
    • Manage and oversee documentation and data management/archiving for Nonclinical
    • Contribute to building and maintaining Quality infrastructure through the authoring, review and management of SOPs, protocols, etc.
    • Manage CROs and other vendors, including periodic travel to CMOs and CROs e.g. vendor audits

    Requirements:

    • 5-8 years of relevant biotech and/or pharmaceutical industry experience is required
    • Undergraduate or advanced degree in a scientific discipline
    • At least 2-3 years in Nonclinical Operations is required
    • Experience managing projects across discovery and preclinical programs; experience managing cross functional activities through IND submission preferred
    • Operational experience and familiarity with the drug development process, including function-level activities and external regulatory requirements
    • Excellent communication skills; comfortable navigating complexity and ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
    • Excellent organizational skills with knowledge of project management tools (e.g. Microsoft Project)
    • Good working knowledge of GLP and GMP
  • Scientist, Cancer Biology

    Position Summary:

    We are seeking a creative and self-motivated PhD scientist with a desire to excel at the highest level to join a team driving the discovery of novel small molecule therapeutics in oncology.  The successful candidate will work independently within in a team to evaluate target dependency hypotheses, develop pre-clinical models, and evaluate small molecule leads.  We are looking for a consummate team player who seeks a scientifically rigorous environment for their career development in drug discovery.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Independently design and execute experiments to evaluate target dependency hypotheses in multiple cancer contexts.
    • Perform experiments aimed at the biological evaluation of small molecules impacting cancer dependency pathways and anti-cancer immunity, including identification of pre-clinical models and the development of cell-based assays. interpret, summarize and present research findings at internal and external scientific meetings/conferences.
    • Proactively review literature to bring in the newest scientific findings, ideas, and methods/technologies for discovery research.

    Qualifications:

    • Ph.D. and 1-3 years post-doctoral training in Cancer Biology
    • Proven track record of excellence as evidenced by high impact, peer reviewed publications
    • Demonstrated skills in cellular and molecular biology techniques
    • Experience with in vitro and in vivo pharmacological assessment of small molecules preferred
    • Capability to work within a dynamic matrix environment, with strong contribution to project strategies and progression

  • Vice President, Legal Affairs

    Summary:
    The VP Legal Affairs will actively contribute to overall corporate, finance, business development, and scientific strategies and their implementation, manage the legal function, and obtain and oversee the work of outside counsel.

    Responsibilities:

    • Participate in the definition and development of corporate policies, procedures and programs and provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters.
    • Shape and drive the IP strategy. Manage the company’s patent and trademark portfolio, work directly with outside counsel and provide guidance, direction and support to internal clients.
    • Capture new IP through working with the company’s scientists, collaborators and founders.
    • Lead IP diligence for potential licensing transactions.
    • Monitor and assess changes in the IP landscape.
    • Partner with business development team to negotiate business terms and execute agreements for strategic collaborations. Oversee drafting and execution of documents for financings.
    • Fully integrate as a member of multiple project teams and provide IP input on company projects.
    • Manage the day-to-day contracts in a timely manner.
    • Serve as Corporate Secretary and manage all corporate governance matters.

    Essential Requirements:

    • J.D. required; MA Bar License preferred; at least 10-15 years of IP experience.
    • Ph.D. in related science (organic chemistry preferred).
    • Outstanding organizational skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Ability to be highly productive and flexible in a fluid and fast-paced work environment.

    Preferred Requirements:

    • Previous experience at a national law firm and/or related industry desired.

  • Senior Director / Vice President, Finance

    Summary:
    Relay Therapeutics is seeking an exceptional candidate for a Senior Director/Vice President, Finance position to lead and manage the accounting / finance operations of the Company.  This is an excellent opportunity for a driven individual looking to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, biotech start-up environment.  This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is an opportunity to contribute significantly to a top-tier, rapidly growing, privately-held biotechnology company.  The successful candidate will have a willingness and ability to manage and execute the entire range of tasks required to support the Company’s financial functions.

    Responsibilities:
    Accounting & Reporting:

    • Lead the accounting operations of the company including maintaining an adequate system of accounting records/policies and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results.
    • Ensure that the company’s accounting procedures and reported results confirm to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements and forecasts.
    • Prepare monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
    • Manage the payroll and accounts payable processes (includes overseeing purchasing process).
    • Interface with financial institutions and external accounting firm.
    • Oversee the independent valuation and year end independent financial statement audit.
    • Manage the company’s tax reporting requirements.
    • Take lead on preparing and readying the organization for SEC standards, including reporting, compliance and implementation of Sarbanes Oxley, as required.
    • Research and advise the company on the adoption of critical financial systems.
    • Support general administrative projects in Facilities, IT and HR.

    Financial Planning & Analysis:

    • Work with the Chief Financial Officer as a key contributor on the Company’s strategic plan and ongoing business strategy.
    • Support all planning, budgeting, analysis, and reporting for the company.
    • Lead budgeting and monitoring performance vs. budget on a monthly basis.
    • Organize and prepare financial materials and presentations.
    • Assist with maintenance of the Company’s capitalization table and support all shareholder issues.
    • Oversee financial and legal controls in the company.
    • Responsible for managing the cash-flow of the company, including bank accounts and investments.

    Qualifications:

    • BA/BS required, CPA a plus.
    • 7 – 10 years finance experience required, with at least 3 years of experience as a Controller.
    • SEC financial reporting experience a plus.
    • Experience in Health Care and/or Healthcare IT (HIT) finance.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to support a growing business.
    • Excellent GAAP, analytical, and financial reporting technical skills.
    • Ability to work in a small company environment and contribute to many different functions – willingness to “do it all” and take a hands-on approach to the role.
    • Proven ability to manage and mentor staff.
    • Highly organized, with focus on process discipline.
    • Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills.

  • Associate Director / Director, Medicinal Chemistry

    The Position:

    We are looking for an experienced scientist to help us build a strong portfolio of innovative medicines through excellence in synthetic chemistry and medicinal chemistry. The successful candidate will be able to integrate a range of biophysical, computational, biological, and pharmacological data to progress drug discovery projects.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Participate in and/or lead multidisciplinary research project teams, helping to set program priorities and direction
    • Apply modern drug discovery and multi-parameter optimization principles to design and synthesize safe and efficacious molecules, with the goal of progressing compounds to clinical candidates
    • Contribute effectively to patent strategy
    • Help build Relay as an organization and exemplify Relay’s core values
    • Integrate the latest advances in biophysical (e.g. room temperature crystallography, hydrogen/deuterium exchange) and computational techniques (e.g. free energy perturbation, long molecular dynamics simulations) during hit finding and lead generation
    • Incorporate analysis of the competitive landscape into program strategy
    • Supervise internal staff and CRO-based research
    • May manage research collaborations with external partners
    • Maintain a safe and inclusive work environment
    • Ensure the detailed and accurate record of experiments in lab notebooks to protect intellectual property

     

    Qualifications:

    • PhD in organic or medicinal chemistry, with minimum of 8 years of experience in relevant positions
    • Extensive experience leading hit to lead and lead optimization medicinal chemistry efforts across multiple targets and/or therapeutic areas
    • Proven track record of successfully advancing small molecules to development candidates as a project team leader
    • Strong working knowledge of structure-based drug discovery and familiarity with molecular dynamics modeling techniques
    • Experience coordinating internal and external chemistry teams to prepare compounds efficiently
    • Solid track record of impact on drug discovery projects exemplified by a record of conference presentation, peer reviewed publication, and patent inventorship
    • Capability to work within a dynamic matrix environment, with strong contribution to project strategies and progression
    • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
